What is Radiofrequency Treatment?

Radiofrequency treatment is sometimes described as a non-invasive face lift, though its effects are more subtle than a surgical face lift. Radio Frequency (RF) treatment uses electrical pulses to effectively tighten skin and reduce wrinkles. It works by selectively delivering heat energy to the middle and lower levels of skin stimulating new collagen growth. Radio Frequency technology remains a popular procedure because it can deeply penetrate the lower levels of skin without causing any damage to the surface.

Common uses

Common uses for this cosmetic procedure are to lift the brow, tighten the forehead, reduce jowling and to tauten loose, wrinkly skin around the eyes, cheeks and neck.

How does it work?

The application of energy is the most recent addition in the war on anti-aging and is currently available. Non-ablative means the skin is not ablated or removed during treatment. Electrodes are used to deliver high frequency electrical current to the skin and subcutaneous layers, causing tightening but with little change in texture or fine wrinkling on the skin surface.

Energy from a RF generator is delivered to a probe tip, which is equipped with a cooling spray, computer chip and sophisticated sensors which measure pressure current flow and skin temperature. Feedback from the probe tip to a computer in the RF generator regulates the amount of energy applied to the tissue. When the unit is fired, the tip is cooled, followed a moment later with current flow to the deep layers of the skin by capacitive coupling. Cooling continues for an additional second or two. With this treatment, you will feel a sensation of cold, then heat, then cold again.

The combination of capacitive coupling and aggressive cooling protects the epidermis during the delivery of energy to the deep dermis and subcutaneous layers. Collagen heating produces microscopic wounding, with immediate collagen contraction, and subsequent repair and remodelling of this deep collagen produces skin tightening over the next several months.

How may treatments are recommended?

A session of 20-40 minute treatment is recommended in every 1-2 weeks. Clients with active acne may need ongoing treatments every 2-3 weeks to maintain breakout free skin. Results can last for years depending on your skin condition, sun exposure and stage in the aging process.

How safe is it?

There is no downtime with this treatment. After body treatments there may be some redness but this will subside after an hour or so. Faces can look instantly revived and off you go like a mini facelift! It is painless, just with some slight warming of the treated area. You get to lay down in an air conditioned room and relax while you burn fat and your skin tone improves This is the new wave of technology for these conditions and improvements. without surgery! It is suitable for all skin colours but it cannot be used in patients with pacemakers, metal plates or pins in the treatment area, severe heart disease, connective tissue diseases, pregnant or breastfeeding women, etc.
